Atalanta BC manager, Gian Piero Gasperini blamed referee after their 2-0 defeat to SS Lazio in the Coppa Italia final lastnight at the Stadio Olympico in Rome. Two goals in the last ten minutes aided Lazio to clinch their seventh Coppa Italia title.
The game was really an end to end action with Atalanta starting the game on a brighter note. They had some couple of shots on target and chances but couldn’t utilize them. Lazio had a very poor first half having committed 15 fouls in that half.
With that poor first half, manager Simeone Inzaghi introduced a new plan and that really worked perfectly for his side. Sergej Milinkovic Savic was brought on for Romero Alconehel on the 79th minute minute. Just three minutes after his introduction, Milinkovic Savic heads in to give Lazio the lead on the 82nd minute.
As Atalanta kept on putting the pressure on Lazio in a quest to get back on level terms, striker Joaquin Correa finished off everything in the last minutes of the game to win the game for Lazio. With 2-0 victory, they claimed their seventh Coppa Italia title and clinching it for the first time since 2013.
Gian Piero Gaspareni blamed referee Luca Banti and the other officials due the referee’s refusal to award them a penalty when Martin De Roon’s strike went off the hand of Lazio defender, Michael Bastos who was yellow carded already.
It was a clear penalty and a red card incident but we weren’t given and the VAR too was not reviewed. This happened in the early stages of the game and if it was given, it would have change the game. Atalanta will still be in a hunt for a trophy since 1963 after failing once again yesterday.
