It has become a normal ritual, seeing young energetic boys aged between twelve (12) to seventeen (17), and other older ones, gearing up in a spectatorship mood, ready to enjoy a thrilling night of amazing football.
It is a beautiful scene, watching the people living around, come out of their various houses to cheer up their favorite teams playing astonishing football with 5 aside players each, trying to hit the bar which equals a goal. It is not easy hitting the bar or scoring. These lads make it look beautiful and entertaining. This normally starts from around 9pm to 12am.
This initiative is also to help curb social vices especially around the Anlokodzi area, which is somewhat noted for notoriety.
Soccer at night will also help change the perception people have about the people.
Night Street Soccer also fosters the communities and confidence that are central to the sport of soccer to empower individuals living in these areas to find greater success and peace in their lives.
This is also a platform and an opportunity for these young lads to showcase their football talents to the world. Sports is motivating and helps create purpose, hope, and relationships to support people on their journey to security and happiness.
This is an opportune time for the local authorities, the Municipal and District assemblies to strategize or re-strategize and draw plans that will factor the sporting needs of these young folks.
The launch is slated for Saturday, 18th May, 2019 at the Anlokodzi Taxi Rank, now Nfodjo Park, Civic Centre behind the STC yard at 5:30PM prompt.
