Ghanaian giant Accra Hearts of Oak have decided not to extend their stay with ace midfielder Malik Akowuah who will be running out of contract very soon. He signed three years with the Phobians in 2016 after joining from Medeama S.C.
Hearts of Oak wrote this on their official Facebook handle to confirm the story:
“Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club has taken the option not to renew the contract of midfielder Malik Akowuah following the expiration of his three-year deal at the club. We thank him for his professional service to the club and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
Many have the perception that, Malik Akowuah could not reach up to the height since joining the Continental Club Masters. He had a fantastic season with Medeama S.C in the 2015/16 season especially in the CAF Confederations Cup.
His superb performance for the Mauves and Yellows attracted various clubs which included rivals Asante Kotoko S.C and Congolese giant T.P Mazembe but the Phobians secured his signature at the end.
The 30 year old midfielder featured for the Phobians in the 2016/17 season. He again participated in the following season but that league was unfortunately truncated before wrapping everything with the just ended Normalisation Committee Special Competition. Akowuah at a point captained Hearts of Oak but for a shot period when permanent captain Abdul Fataw was stripped off his captaincy for indiscipline.
After all these in the past years, the Phobians believe they will not need the service of the midfielder anymore and have wished him all the best in his next encounter.
