Over the weekend, the CAF inter club competitions commenced with the first preliminary round fixtures. It was the first legged games with the return encounters expected to be hounored this weekend.
As always, both the Confederations Cup and Champions league recorded some mouthwatering encounters with tremendous performance as it has always been in all the various centres.
As usual, it was the home teams that remained dominant after recording most wins over the weekend. We recorded a few away wins as we head into the second leg over the weekend.
Eblaradio will like to highlight you on the performance of Ghanaian internationals in the Confederations Cup and Champions league over the weekend:
*Pyramids FC 4-1 Etoile du Congo:
Egyptian giant Pyramids FC hosted Congolese champions Etoile du Congo over the weekend in the first leg of the champions league prelims. Newly signed Ghanaian international John Antwi netted brace for Pyramids in their 4-1 triumph last Friday over their Congolese counterparts.
*Kano Pillars 3-2 Asante Kotoko S.C:
Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko travelled to Nigeria to play Kano Pillars in the prelims of the Champions league. It finished 3-2 in favor of the home side at the General Sani Abacha Stadium. Midfielder Justice Blay got the first consolation goal when Kotoko was down before wonder kid Godfred Asiamah came from the bench to score a spectacular free kick to bring the Porcupine Warriors back on level but still lost the game 3-2 after full time.
*Akonangui FC 1-1 Ashanti Gold S.C:
Ashanti Gold S.C played as guest to Equatorial Guinean outfit Akonangui FC in the first preliminary round of the Confederations Cup. The game ended 1-1 with centre-back Richard Osei Agyemang scoring a sensational bicycle kick to put the Miners ahead in the first half but the lead was cancelled with few minutes to bring proceedings to an end.
*Stade Malien 1-1 Horoya A.C
Malian champions Stade Malien welcomed Guinean side Horoya A.C in Bamako last Saturday in the Champions league. Spoils were shared at the end after a score drawn game, Ghanaian international Godfred Asante was on the score sheet for Horoya A.C to give them huge advantage heading into return fixture.
*Rayon Sports 1-1 Al Hilal Club:
Ghanaian winger Michael Sarpong scored for the Rwandan champions Rayon Sports in their 1-1 draw over the weekend with Al Hilal at the Stade Regional de Kigal Nyimirambo in the first leg of the Champions league prelims.
*Matlama FC 0-2 Petro Atletico:
Elsewhere at the Setsoto stadium, Lesotho champions Matlama FC were pipped 2-0 by their Angolan opponents Petro Athletico de Luanda. Former Hearts of Oak winger Isaac Mensah was on the score sheet for the Angolan side.
*Maranatha de Fiokpo 3-0 LISCR:
Togolese outfit Maranatha de Fiokpo hosted Liberian side LISCR in the first round prelims of the Confederations Cup. Right back Anthony Nimo Asamoah registered his name on the score sheet as his side thumped LISCR 3-0.
