The Black Stars B will be locking horns with Ivory Coast this evening in the semi finals of the ongoing 2019 WAFU Championship which is been held in Senegal.
On the road to this stage, Ghana eliminated Gambia in the first round by a slim 1-0 triumph thanks to Joseph Esso’s 67th minute strike. The Gambians had a spot kick to equalise but they got denied by the Ghanaian goalie.
The Black Stars B in the quarter finals took on Burkina Faso, they went down first in the early stages of the game but skipper Shafiu Mumuni’s 38th minute equaliser levelled things up for the Black Stars B so the game had to travel to penalties to determine the winner. Again, two saves from goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi in the shoot outs aided Ghana to run out 5-4 victors on penalties.
On the other hand, the Elephants also engaged the Hawks of Togo in the other quarter final game. It finished goalless after full time but Ivory Coast proceeded to win 4-2 on penalties.
It is going to be an interesting encounter since the winner of this clash will be a huge favourite heading into finals. Coach Maxwell Konadu and his lads are only two hurdles away to defend their WAFU title after hosting and winning the maiden edition in 2017 which was staged in Cape Coast.
