The 2019/20 Ghana Premier League entered into match week two over the weekend with some interesting and exciting games. The second round of games also pulled some shocking results and again, there hasn’t been any complains on referees from any of the venues for now.
The round recorded 17 goals from all the nine games with three home wins, four away wins which is uncharacteristic of the Ghana league in recent years including two drawn games.
Here’s the match reports of all the nine games honoured over the weekend:
*Legon Cities FC 1-3 Asante Kotoko S.C:
The second round of games of the new Ghana Premier league season commenced last Friday night at the Ohene Gyan stadium as Asante Kotoko S.C pipped Legon Cities FC by 3-1. It was a much anticipated encounter as Ghana’s top Dancehall hitmaker, Shatta Wale performed live even before kickoff. The Royals opened the scoring account in the opening minutes of the game through Ghanaian-Greek national, Papadopoulos. Augustine Okrah and a brace from Emmanuel Gyamfi powered the Porcupine Warriors to continue with their fine form in the season.
*Inter Allies 2-1 Bechem United:
A five star performance from Nigerien national, Victorien Adebayor was enough for the Capelli boys to record their first win of the season after humbling the Hunters at the Ohene Gyan Stadium. Adebayor was voted man of the match after assisting Kwabena Kyeremateng’s goal in the first half before adding Allies’s second of the day. Salifu Moro with the consolation for Bechem United.
*Medeama S.C 3-0 Heart of Oak:
The woes of Hearts of Oak continued at the Akoon Park yesterday following an emphatic 3-0 thrashing that was handed to them by Medeama in Tarkwa. Former New Edubiase forward, Prince Opoku Agyemang bagged brace for Nana Kofi Babil to come from the bench to seal everything for the Mauves and Yellows. Six goals from two games has sent Coach Samuel Boadu and his charges to the top of the league log after the week two games.
*Great Olympics 0-1 Aduana Stars:
Heartbreak at the Ohene Gyan Stadium as Olympics conceded in the dying embers of the game to lose all three points to Aduana Stars. Experience Gladson Awako bossed the midfield for the “Ole” boys but his effort wasn’t enough to earn them a victory. Nathan Kofi Richard’s late strike has maintained the winning run of the “Ogya boys” in the new season.
*King Faisel FC 0-1 Ashanti Gold S.C:
King Faisel FC suffered another defeat over the weekend against Ashanti Gold in front of their own fans in Kumasi. An impressive first half output from the “Insha Allah” lads gave everyone a different perception only for them to end up losing narrowly by 1-0. Centre-back Mubraik Yussif’s second half free kick propelled the Miners to run out with all three points to Obuasi, his second goal of the season.
*Eleven Wonders 0-1 Dreams FC:
Dreams FC records their second successful win of the season following a sweet victory at the Nana Collins Ameyaw Akumfi Park in Techiman. People trooped into the stadium in numbers to rally behind Eleven Wonders to seek first victory of the season only for them to return home without getting what they expected. Sulaiman Mohammed’s 14th minute goal made the difference between the sides in the end.
*WAFA 2-0 Ebusua Dwarfs:
At the Red Bull Arena, West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) continued with their fine form after humbling the Crabs by 2-1. Goals from Eric Asamany and Daniel Owusu was enough for the Academy boys to move on with their fine form in the league as they are now having two wins out of two games placing in the top six on the league table.
*Elmina Sharks 1-1 Karela United
Karela United held Elmina Sharks to a score drawn game yesterday at the Ndoum Sports Stadium. Raphael Ocloo’s strike cancelled Darlington Fosu Gyan’s early goal to split the points among the two sides. Both teams are still yet to win a game this season.
*Berekum Chelsea 0-0 Liberty Professionals:
The Blues failed to record consecutive wins after drawing goalless with Liberty Professionals at the Golden City Park yesterday.
