President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has ordered for the suspension of all sporting activities in the country until further notice.
The President made this declaration on Sunday evening mainly because of the recent outbreak and spread of the coronavirus epidemic in the country.
Ghana recorded it first COVID-19 case last Thursday night after two foreigners from Norway and Canada tested positive for the deadly disease. Just yesterday, the case has increased from 2-4 which brought the total number of infections to 6.
The men’s senior national team, Black Stars were supposed to take on Sudan later this month in a double header in Accra and Omdurman respectively in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers but got postponed due to the same COVID-19.
The President’s statement means all football activities in the country including the Ghana premier league, the national division one and the Women’s league have all been suspended for four weeks.
Not only that, the upcoming national division two and three leagues also faces the same problem so as the juvenile league. The Ashanti Regional inter schools & colleges and the Super Zonals has also been truncated. The Ghana national Athletics circuit Championship has also been suspended, all until further notice.
