Crystal Palace forward, Jordan Ayew converted a second half penalty to win all three points for the Black Stars in their second group game of the ongoing 2021 AFCON qualifiers.
Not what Ghanaians and other football fans anticipated, the game wasn’t a test for the Black Stars as they dominated the game doing more of the possessions but chances creation and attempts on goal were very few in the first half.
In the second half, Ghana made a quick incursion with Thomas Partey spreading a low pass onto the left flanks, he then moved into space to connect from Gideon Mensah’s cross but his effort went wide off the crossbar after been left unmarked by the Sao Tome gallant back line.
Ghana finally broke the deadlock after converting from a penalty kick on the 49th minute. Decent cross on the right falls on goalkeeper Gilmar Eusebio Tavinho who failed to grab that one, Emmanuel Boateng tried to capitalised on that howler but he was pulled down by the goalie who got yellow carded on that incident. Jordan Ayew stepped up and converted neatly to put Ghana ahead.
The Black Stars were not the team many witnessed in Cape Coast last Thursday due to the nature of the pitch. The astro turf in Sao Tome was totally in a bad state leaving players like Jordan Ayew, Andy Yiadom, skipper Andre Ayew etc all no where to be spotted in the game.
At the end of everything, the Black Stars ended up recording a narrowly win over the Falcons. They run out with all three points from the Island. The move team will be returning to Ghana very soon.
Ghana now lead Group C of the AFCON 2021 qualifiers with six points after Sudan got beaten 1-0 by South Africa yesterday in Johannesburg.
