Former Asante Kotoko S.C midfielder, Kwame Bonsu together with all his Esperance teammates landed in Doha, Qatar last night ahead of the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup. The team travelled with 23 players comprising of 3 goalkeepers, 7 defenders, 8 midfielders and 5 strikers.
The 2019 Club World Cup is the 16th edition and is going to be staged in Doha, Qatar. It will consist of 7 teams from 6 Confederations since it is a tournament mend for the champions of the various football Confederations.
Esperance de Tunis are the sole African representatives in this year’s edition after beating Moroccan giant Wydad Athletic Club to clinch the CAF Champions league.
Defending champions Real Madrid couldn’t make it after winning the last three editions. Liverpool now hold the ticket of Uefa in the competition after beating Tottenham Hotspur in June in Madrid to lift the Uefa Champions league.
These are the six participating clubs for this year’s edition;
Al Sadd (Host), Esperance de Tunis (CAF), Liverpool (UEFA), Flamengo (CONMEBOL), Al Hilal (AFC), Monterrey (CONCACAF) and Hienghene Sport (OFC).
Ghanaian midfielder, Kwame Bonsu will be partaking in this year’s competition for Esperance after been influential in their squad since joining from Asante Kotoko S.C. He’s playing every week in the Tunisian premier league and also lasted the entire duration in their games against Raja Club Athletic and JS Kabylie in the ongoing CAF Champions league.
Esperance will be playing Asian champions, Al Hilal in their opening game of the competition on Saturday at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.
