Ghanaian giant Accra Hearts of Oak have ordered their head coach, Kim Grant to step aside with some few days to the commencement of the new league season after just a year with the club since joining the Phobians in October 2018 from Elmina Sharks.
The main reason behind this declaration is that, Coach Kim Grant couldn’t meet the requirement proposed by the GFA some weeks ago that coaches of any of the top flight teams should at least hold a CAF license A or it equivalent.
Kim Grant holds a UEFA Pro license which isn’t equivalent to what the GFA is seeking for therefore making him ineligible to sit at the dugout for the Phobians in the upcoming season. Also, earlier reports has already stated the former Elmina Sharks gaffer has a UEFA A License which qualifies him to lead the Rainbow boys but his certificate is yet to be released.
Due to this reason, the board of Hearts of Oak have asked the former Black Stars player to remain sidelined until further notice for Edward Nii Odoom to takeover as caretaker. Many believed that is the end of Grant’s stay at Hearts of Oak.
Coach Edward Nii Odoom has been with the Hearts youth team (Auroras) since joining from Tema Youth. This is the second time he’s taking over the first team of Hearts after playing the same role in September 2018 when then head coach, Henry Wellington got sacked.
Edward Odoom has been tasked to lead the Phobians into their opening fixture of the 2019/20 season as they take on Berekum Chelsea at the Ohene Gyan stadium. He will be in charge until a new substantive coach is announced.
