Asante Kotoko SC Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kwame Kyei before the game promised the technical team and the playing body that he has a special present for them if they beat Hearts of Oak. After that victory, he has promised to give each player GHc2,000 as winning bonus instead of the usual GHc400.
The Porcupine Warriors continued with their dominant over the Phobians yesterday especially in Accra after humbling them by 1-2 in matchweek six of the Ghana Premier league yesterday at the Ohene Gyan stadium.
Kotoko opened the scoring account on the 11th minute through Justice Blay who jumped high to head from Augustine Okrah’s free kick. Midfielder Mudasiru Salifu had a glorious moment to make it two for Kotoko after going pass two Hearts players but his effort missed the post by inches.
Hearts of Oak responded on a higher note right from the commencement of the second half until they got the equaliser on the 63rd minute through starman Joseph Esso who headed from a close range to bring the Phobians back on level leaving the stadium in total joy and excitement.
Just and when everybody thought the game was ending a draw, Asante Kotoko were handed a penalty after the ball clipped off Mohammed Alhassan’s stretched hand in the penalty box. Guinean national Naby Keita stepped up and converted neatly to win the game for Kotoko.
It finished 1-2 in favour of Asante Kotoko at the end. They moved out of the Accra Stadium with all three points and the bragging right.
As promised earlier, club Chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei held a meeting with the team at their hotel last night and told them he will hand each player a cheque of GHc2,000 following their outstanding performance against their arc rivals Hearts of Oak.
Also, the club Chairman has also increased the club’s winning bonus for home and away matches from the usual 300 and 400 to 500 cedis. This declaration served as a great news to both the technical team and the players.
