Kumasi High School have beaten Adu Gyamfi Senior high school by 2-0 to clinch the 2019 edition of the Ashanti Regional Inter-schools and Colleges boys soccer competition which was held at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The “Mmerante3” especially the current and old students were left in a total joy along the streets of Amakom and Asokwa as they have ended the school’s 23 years drought in winning the competition since the last time they won was back in 1997.
Cheetah FC and Black Starlets forward Christian Agyenim Boateng popularly known as Atonsu Benteke was the hero as he bagged brace to propel his team win the competition. He converted from the spot in the first half to open the scoring before nutmegging the goalkeeper to get his second of the day.
However, Adu Gyamfi SHS started on a brighter note taking the game at KUHIS trying any means possible to get a goal but all proved futile. The five time champions came off the woodwork on three occasions in the game.
Kumasi hasn’t been bad in recent years when it comes to the Regional Inter-schools soccer competition. They won the maiden edition of the Ashanti Top 8 in 2017 and got evicted from the quarter final last year. They have identified their weakness, came strongly this year and have landed the ultimate.
Early on, Kumasi Secondary Technical School had also humbled Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School 6-5 on penalties to clinch the third spot after it had ended goalless after regulation time.
