Two spectacular goals from Achraf Bencharki in the second half stole the show for Zamalek SC as they defeated Esperance de Tunis by 3-1 to clinch their fourth Super Cup yesterday at the Thani bin Jassim Stadium in Qatar
Zamalek started the game on a higher note resulting to an early opener just two minutes from kickoff. Achraf Bencharki played Abdel-Shafi through on the left flanks who sent in a decent cross inside the box, Youssef Fayed Obama jumped high to head into the net to give the Egyptians the lead (1-0)
Just after going down in the opening minutes, Esperance tried to recover quickly as Sameh Derbali’s ground outswing cross falls on Kwame Bonsu whose effort missed the post by inches.
Esperance with another fine build up on the 19th minute falls on Kwame Bonsu again but the Ghanaian had his shot blocked by the Zamalek defence as the ball travels over the line for a corner kick.
The White Nights begin to resettle in the game as Obama flicked an air ball to Mustafa Mohammed whose effort went way off target as the game still remained 1-0 in their favour.
Another Mustafa Mohammed trouble, as he controlled a ball in the Esperance area but his strike got denied by goalkeeper Ben Cheriffa with Bencharki’s rebound header going over the post. It finished 1-0 in the first half.
In the second half, the Gold and Bloods had a superb build up on the 48th minute, a poor clearance from the Zamalek defence falls on Hamdou Houni whose shot went off the hand of El-Wensh. Players protested for a penalty but referee wasn’t interested.
Victor Gomez after checking the VAR, awarded the penalty for Esperance on the 53rd minute. Abdelraouf Ben Guith stepped up and placed it nicely into the roof of the net to bring the Tunisians back on level (1-1).
Just after four minutes of getting the equaliser, Kwame Bonsu gifted Achraf Bencharki a pass in the centre circle, the Moroccan made a good serging run and placed it nicely into the buttom right corner to give Zamalek the lead once again (2-1).
The Gold and Bloods in the quest of searching for their equaliser had their goal disallowed on the 86th minute for the game to still remain 2-1.
Just on the stroke of full time, Zamalek with another counter break, Ferjani Sassi locates Bencharki who spectacularly chipped over the Esperance goalie to seal everything for the White Knights (3-1).
