Asante Kotoko SC will be welcoming city rivals Ashanti Gold SC in the Ashanti Derby this afternoon at the Baba Yara Stadium in match week ten of the Ghana Premier league.
This is the battle between the 3rd and 4th place teams on the league as they both have accumulated 17 points so far in the league. This would have been awesome if the Kumasi fans will troop into the stadium in numbers but that sounds impossible as Kotoko are still serving their stadium ban.
Asante Kotoko look to make it six games without a defeat as they remain unbeaten in their last five games. The team faced a tougher opposition from Liberty and WAFA and will be anticipating the same thing from the Obuasi base outfit today.
In Dawu last week against Dreams FC, the Porcupine Warriors nearly recorded three consecutive draws but a late goal from Abdul Bashiru propelled them to grind all the three points.
Meanwhile, the Miners were presented with a herculean clash against Liberty Professionals in Obuasi but still managed to get the results courtesy Appiah McCarthy’s first half penalty. It was a game many believed the Miners were just lucky as the Scientific Soccer lads were denied a clear penalty in the second half which could have brought them back on level.
Now that coach Kasim Gokyildiz is gone, mandate has been handed to the assistant Yakubu Mambo to take charge. He will be leading the team to Kumasi like he’s been doing since the commencement of this season.
Maxwell Baako returned to the pitch last week after been sidelined for sometime now. After been off for a while, both Augustine Okrah and Mathew Anim Cudjoe returned and featured in a training match against Jachie Academy.
Mudasiru Salifu has started his personal training but won’t be available for this afternoon’s clash.
On the other hand, Coach Yakubu Mambo now has all his players available to select from this afternoon. James Akaminko, Abdul Latif Anabila, Amos Nkrumah, Appiah McCarthy and the other players are all fit and poised for battle this afternoon.
Centre back Yusif Mubarik couldn’t finish the game against Liberty and might be doubtful for the game. Again, Shafiu Mumuni is nowhere to be found as he still hasn’t shown up in Obuasi yet.
