The Executive Board Chairman of Asante Kotoko, Dr. Kwame Kyei has confirmed they are planning for the team to play their home games at the club’s training complex in Adako-Jachie. He made this declaration in an interview with Accra based Asempa FM.
This decision is being considered following the decision of the National Sports Authority to close down the stadium for some renovation works since the stadium is totally dilapidated and needs to be rehabilitated.
With this, all teams in both the Premier league and the other lower tiers will have to find another venue to host their subsequent home league games. Some of the affected clubs include King Faisel FC, Asokwa Deportivo, Wassaman United etc.
Initially, Kotoko were linked to three stadia to host their home games. Reports stated Obuasi, Sunyani and Cape Coast but the club’s CEO has now confirmed they are not moving to any of these venues but will rather settle on their training complex in Adako-Jachie.
Dr. Kwame Kyei has indicated the Adako-Jachie land is very big enough and has everything to host their league games. He said they will have to embark on some works to make sure it meet the standard of the Club Licensing Board.
“We are working tirelessly to make sure we get Adako Jachie to the best of shape so we can use it as our home grounds.
Since the closure of Baba Yara Stadium, I and the Management are doing our best to get a permanent home grounds for Kotoko.
We have started the project. I have been with the contractor on the job. We want to put the place in order and play our matches there.
We are on it, there’s a lot of work. We have started the fence wall, we could finish in about six months. We are putting up a wall around the Adako Jachie to make sure it meets the standard of the Club Licensing Board.
The Adako Jachie land is big, it’s bigger than the Accra and Kumasi Sports Stadium, we need everyone’ support whether you are a mason or a carpenter.”
