Due to the widespread of the deadly coronavirus around the globe off late, veteran football administrator Alhaji Abdul Karim Gurusah has suggested to the country’s football governing body for the suspension of the rest of the Ghana football season until further notice.
Ghana recorded it first case last Thursday night after two people from Norway and Canada were found positive with the coronavirus, Heath Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu confirmed in an emergency press release.
With this and due to the easy way of it transmission, Alhaji Gurusah believes the premier league should be suspended so as the national division one league and the Women’s premier league. He believes the suspension will help prevent the various Ghanaian football stakeholders from contracting the deadly disease. He said;
“We should all pray that people in our country don’t get infected with the deadly virus (Coronavirus) after two people were confirmed testing positive.
“The Ghana FA should be considering to suspend the Ghana Premier League and other competitions for weeks or months.
“I know people will say it’s because my team [King Faisal] is in the drop zone that’s why I am making those suggestions. But we should be thinking of the lives of human first before football.
“We should follow the steps of other Football Association to suspend our football activities for weeks or months.”
The coronavirus has really caused havoc to football and other sporting events in 2020. The English premier league, Spanish Laliga, German Bundesliga, French Ligue 1, Italian Serie A and most other football leagues in the world has been suspended until further notice.
With this, the 74 year old administrator believe the rest of the Ghana football campaign should be suspended.
