Ivorian football legend Didier Drogba’s ambition of leading football in his motherland has been shut down after shockingly losing out to Sorry Diabate in the just ended Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) election.
Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the election was held in a video conference by the association of Ivorian footballers. Out of the 14 members, 11 participated with the other 3 refusing to cast their vote.
The sad aspect is that, the former Chelsea forward didn’t just lose the election but amassed no point despite having the endorsement of 48 clubs prior to announcing his intentions to compete for the Ivorian FA Presidency. He had already rejected a role at his former club Chelsea to take up the role in his country.
Sori Diabate who emerged as victorious at the end, amassed all 11 votes with Didier Drogba getting no vote. The vice president of the Ivorian football association, Idriss Diallo also had no vote despite being in charge of marketing and promotion commission.
Sori Diabate is now the new president of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) and will be succeeding Augustine Sidy Diallo, the incumbent.
