Founder of division one side Tema Youth, Mr. Wilfred Osei Kwaku famously known as Palmer has accused the officials of the GFA of influencing player selections into our various national teams, he disclosed this in an an interview with the Daily Graphic.
This issue has been rumoured in the country in recent years even during the era of Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi that player selection into our various national teams especially the Black Stars are being influenced by the officials of the Association since some of the players gets call up even when their performance has dipped leaving out the quality once.
The veteran football administrator has stated emphatically clear that most players are handed call ups but you could see clearly they don’t fit to be in the team and this has been a top secret in our national teams for years.
The former GFA Presidential Aspirant added by saying the officials always hand players that are close to them the chance by not looking at their quality or performance. Instead of allowing the technical handlers of our national teams to conduct the call ups themselves, they rather ignore them. He said;
“This is an open secret that GFA officials influence the selection of players into the national team. There are some players who come to the national team but are not fit to be in the team.
“Instead of we looking at things from a technical perspective, we tend to look for players very close to us to be part of the team, irrespective of their level or quality of skills they have.
“If you have your doubts, you can talk to the ex-coaches and they will tell you a lot,” he added.
