Asante Kotoko S.C have settled the long standing debt they owe Esperance over the wrongful capture of Emmanuel Clottey back in 2015, club Spokesperson Kennedy Boakye Ansah has confirmed.
Initially, Asante Kotoko were fined $240,000 by FIFA over the same issue, $15,000 will be paid to FIFA to settle the panel that presided over the issue with the rest going into the accounts of the Tunisian giants.
According to Kennedy Boakye Ansah, they wrote to Esperance who also accepted to slash the $45,000 interest on the actual amount. However Esperance also owe Kotoko $150,000 from the transfer of Kwame Bonsu which was sealed in July 2019 and was deducted from the actual $225,000.
In all, Asante Kotoko paid $45,000 to both Esperance and FIFA. $30,000 to the Gold and Bloods, $15,000 to the highest football governing body for failing to comply with their order. He said;
“Dr. Kwame Kyei has paid the amounts due Esperance and FIFA in the Emmanuel Clottey issue.
“Thirty thousand ($30,000) US Dollars go to Esperance as an addition to the $150,000 owed Kotoko for the transfer of Kwame Bonsu.
“The Executive Chairman also paid $15, 000 to FIFA. We are grateful to Dr. Kyei and also to Ashford Tetteh Oku of Close Marking Consult for the smooth closure of this case”, Boakye Ansah told Kotoko Express.
