Minister of Information Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has told football people to present a strong reason as to why football should be made to resume in the country amid the COVID-19.
The President of Ghana, H.E Nana Akufo-Addo some weeks ago imposed a ban on public gatherings thereby leading to the suspension of all football activities in the country.
In spite of this, many football administrators in the country have been throwing in commentaries on the President’s decision asking him to allow football resume in the country. Some also believe the 2019/20 Ghana football campaign should be cancelled so they can plan for a new season.
However, the continuous spread of the coronavirus has led to the cancellation of most football leagues in the world including the French Ligue 1, Eredivise etc. In Africa, countries like Kenya, Ethiopia, Niger, Angola have all ended their leagues with games to spell due to this same coronavirus.
With all these brouhaha, the Minister of Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has stated football will only be made to resume now if the football people are able to give good case on how they run their activities safely without the spread of the disease. He told Atinka TV;
Don’t be angry, we’re talking about people’s safety here, protecting lives is at stake, so there should be no reason to be angry.
“The football people should take their time and make a good representation on how they can play football again whiles they can still protect people, don’t be angry,” he added.
“When you do that government will have discussion on it.
“For instance Golf Association have brought their presentation urging government to open the various golf parks for them and even gave meassures they have put in place to allow them play their game amid covid-19.
“So this is not time for GFA to be angry but rather should follow same step.”
